Mars Rx in Cancer

January 6 - February 23

If you’re familiar with The Princess Bride, picture The Fire Swamp. That’s where we are right now. Sinking sand…quicksand if you will. Move too quickly, get swallowed up. Have patience. Move in a way that will be productive long term.

Mars just left Leo, and we’re back to Mars in Cancer. In Cancer, Mars is in its detriment, and it will be there until April 17. Mars in Cancer is challenging, Mars in Retrograde is challenging, so double the fun challenge. It’s Retrograde until February 23, and then goes direct. Now through Feb. 23 is the toughest part of the work. Here, we turn inward. We need to be strategic. There’s plenty of time for quick moving, and change in a month or two. For now, no quick decisions. It’s sluggish, Emo Warrior.

Find strength in the tender spots. This is an opportunity for exploration of how we do our emotional life, our internal family systems, how we sort out whatever is impeding us from being direct. Cancer tries to create bonds and safety and family; Mars is all about independence, doing our own thing. Connect with your empathy, compassion, and self-awareness—that is the best of Mars in Cancer.

Wherever Cancer is in your chart is where this Rx has the most impact. It’s getting a major moment of excavation...it’s phlegmy. Cancer water, Mars agitating = overheating, irritating...congested. Pay attention to inflammation. There’s an excess of humidity. What gets congested? Nuisance. Irritation. Anger is not well-expressed in this signature. Mars, the warrior, is in a style trying to be comfortable, hence a paradox. We're asked to do difficult things without the resources we would like to have. What stories impede you from being able to make a decision and take action? Time to sort through complicated emotions and rally the courage to work through them. Don't disturb what does not need to be disturbed, but get the things done. Say no; whittle things down. We may have to risk certain things for a greater sense of safety for all. We can't get complacent in what makes us comfy.

Mars: Where's your courage? What do you need to move towards? Where do you need to cut ties? Mars is a sword, so we need to cut things out of our life that are not working, but it won’t happen smoothly. Cutting gets hard when everything is gooey and sticky.

Next week, January 13 brings us a full moon in Cancer conjunct Mars. Ha! This is not a joke, so keep strategy in mind.

BUT—blessings are coming. Because of the work we're asked to do through April, we will be given growth opportunities. In June, Jupiter moves into Cancer, its area of exaltation, coming to fill us up. THIS IS THE ENCOURAGEMENT. Whatever hard work we do with Mars in Cancer is good work to do. September, October, November, and December, Jupiter can do some of its best work, bringing through its gifts. It will help us expand. We want to have space so goodies have someplace to land.
